Wayne and Garf spotted on GoogleMaps. I used to live around the corner from there, when I was at uni. I had no idea they lived so close.

During the great British snow-dump of 2009 I built myself a sledge out of wooden palette that I found in a skip. During the build I documented the process and wrote an instruction guide that I posted in Instructables. As it turns out almost one year on, with snow blanketing the whole country the instructions are still a hit, and have even been featured by the site and listed on their homepage.
For anyone interested in building their own sledge, the instructions are here:

Dubrovnik recreated using thousands of Flickr photos
October 5, 2009 • digitalart, me, technology • Comments
This is a few months old, but as I’ve been there I still find it absolutely amazing.
Researchers at the University of Washington’s graphics and imaging laboratory (GRAIL) have developed a piece of software that can search the web for images of a particular place and recreate that place in 3D in under a day.
The Croatian city of Dubrovnik was used as a testing city for the software and managed to recreate the entire old town from photos available on Flickr, including all the buildings and streets, within 22 hours.
Although we’ve seen an incarnation of this with Microsoft’s Photosynth, this is the first time that the concept has been applied to a whole city.
It will be even more awe inspiring when we be able to use the technology in an application where we could move around the environment and zoom into individual photos.
I wonder if any of my photos have been used in the model?
If James Dean had more time
September 22, 2009 • advertising, me, video • Comments
Being in my late twenties, I have grown increasingly envious of the success stories of those younger than me. I could make a huge list, but I think the fact that James Dean had imortalised himself in cultural history by the time of his death aged 24 says it all really.
Who’s to know what he would have gone on to do. “Dean might have become a junkie and done a Marlon Brando, but we prefer to think he’d have lived a long and wholesome life” (the Guardian) says Keith Rose, director of the advert that has imagined what he could have become.
The advert was created by South African agency King James for investment management firm Alan Gray. It’s a thought provoking execution that tries to remind you to make the most of you life.
Despite it being a great name; Steve is thrown around all too often these days. I’ll happy accept this hillarious advert by the BBC for Walk on the Wild Side though.
My girlfriends mum – the absolute legend – has given us a homemade Emergency Swine Flu Kit, just in case the virus spreads up to Highgate.
The contents are as follows:
x2 Cream of chicken soup
x1 Waterproof digital thermometer
x1 box of x24 Ibruprofen tablets
x1 pack of x10 antisetic wipes
x1 Antimicrobial hand sanitiser
x1 box of x36 blackcurrent Strepsils
x1 box of x32 paracetemol tablets
x1 box of Kleenex balsam tissues
Brilliant! But I hope we never have to use it!
On the 7th June 2009, after 10 months of training I completed my first sprint triathlon, as part of the Mazda Blenheim Triathlon. The race went fantastically well, except for a couple of mishaps and I did better than I thought I would. My race time was:
- Swim: 00:19:13
- Cycle: 00:39:42
- Run: 00:24:20
- Total: 01:31:49
Having put all of that training into the event and for it to come down for little over 1.5 hours, I instantly decided to apply for the London Triathlon on the 1st August, but this time do it for charity, rather than just personal glory.
I had a dream come true as I emerged from the tunnel to find myself on the pitch of the Emirates to compete in a 5-a-side tournament with Agency Republlic on my birthday!!!
We had only two training sessions, but managed to draw 1, win 1 and loose 1. Not enough to get through to the semi’s, but a good effort none the less.
An absolutely brilliant birthday treat.
Multicoloured car

I found this car in a small village in Saint-Antonin Noble Val, Southern France.
You just can’t get away with driving something like this in England (for legal or taste reasons).
I think it’s awesome. I’m thinking about giving my car a similar makeover.
LastGraph

LastGraph is a great visualiser for the music you’ve been listening to, collated via your Last.fm account. It seems like I’ve been listening to a heck of a lot of Chromeo and Q-Tip.
The service operates on a freemium model, whereby the basic facility to view graphs is free, but for £5 a year you can purchase a widget for your website.
